Villa Okavango offers the individual guest, or one with a small family, or group of friends of no more than four in total, the rare privilege of relaxing in complete and secluded luxury amidst the splendour of the Okavango Delta.
Set on the edge of a large perennial lagoon with a wide variety of birdlife and a resident school of hippos, the Villa was originally constructed as Randall Moore's private lodge in the middle of his 500,000-acre concession area in the Delta. It is situated in a picturesque grove of ancient trees including one magnificent specimen of the extraordinary "sausage tree", the Kigelia africana, with its distinctive large sausage-like fruit.
The Villa is built on an elevated, teak deck. The accommodation itself consists of two large bedrooms, one with twin beds (that may be converted to a double), one with a double bed and both with en-suite full bathroom facilities. The dining and lounge areas are equally spacious. The furnishings and fittings are in colonial-baronial style befitting the best of bush lodge luxury four-poster beds and antique sleigh beds.
The Villa, has its own distinctive facilities and staff, including a housekeeper, a chef and a knowledgeable private guide. Subject to availability, there is no limit on the number of days guests that may stay in this beautiful spot and there is no age restriction.
Guests may cool off in the plunge pool in the heat of the day. The guide is at the beck and call of guests to conduct morning or evening game viewing drives or organize trips on the Okavangos numerous waterways in a mokoro, the unique canoe-like craft traditionally used in the Delta. The guide is also on hand at all times to inform guests of all aspects of conservation, ecology and wildlife in the Delta.
Wild game around the Villa is plentiful, from the herds of lechwe, impala, tssessebe and wildebeest to the giraffe browsing on the acacias and herds of buffalo and elephants that passes close by. The predators are never very far away and guests should not be surprised to hear the thrilling nocturnal calling of the large pride of lions which has made this area their home territory.
